E.T Disasters!
I know that there a lot of end of the world coming up, and the prediction that in 2013 the poles of the earth are going to reverse, neutralising all electronics on the earth with gamma rays, but the latest outer space problem is slightly lower key, the 5 tonne, 20 year old US satalite URAS has fallen out of orbit and on the 24th of September will land somewhere between 57 degrees north and 57 degrees south of the equator - most of the populated world!

Health and safety wouldn't want us to get worried though, so they've said that some 50 items weighing >1 tonne re-enter a year. Oh thanks, I feel a lot better now!!
What I love though is how even with this risk of public safety, the US government still feels it's necessary to say "Members of the public are not allowed to keep pieces of the satellite that may fall to Earth, or sell them on eBay, as they remain the property of the US government." So posessive!
