The Pace of Change / Matt Edgar
Matt Edgar makes a very nice metaphor to perspective when he describes seeing the clouds move faster than the moon, even though the moon moves a lot quicker, its just further away. This is so nice because of how it reflects on what we think to be safe, obviously good changes in the past, even though then, everyone was very unsure about the outcome.
And at the same time, how the things that are changing around us stimulate our “primitive motion-sensing reflexes.” The new exciting things grab our attention when we forget about the far larger body of things that stay the same. An example he gives of this is the media, expanding all the time and getting more and more complex, while we all just see it as the same old stuff.
He also  points out how we take advantage of the internet to the extent that we don't go out to the library to find a, quite possibly more accurate, source, we just google it, and find an adequate, but probably of lower quality answer to your question, needs, etc. Again, he uses a metaphor for this, that of a theatrical lighting effect, lighting up the modern, digital side of things so bright that we loose sight and forget about the non digital stuff behind it.
